Dear Parents:
On July 7, 2021, the New York State Department of Health (“NYSDOH”) issued guidance to all
school districts and BOCES with updates relevant to 2021 Summer School programs. More
specifically, the guidance advised that given current low rates of COVID-19 transmission, school
districts may decide to implement revised masking policies for 2021 summer school programs
consistent with the archived Interim Guidance for Child Care, Day Camp and Overnight Camp
Programs during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.
This change permits the Gloversville Enlarged School District to strongly recommend, but not to
require that masks be worn by unvaccinated students while in District-sponsored summer school
programs. We have reviewed this guidance and the positivity rates in our area, and are pleased
to announce that the District will modify its masking policy to strongly encourage, but not
require that students wear masks while at summer school programs. Masks must still be worn by
unvaccinated students using district transportation to summer programs, and unvaccinated
faculty and staff will still be required to wear masks while indoors.
As a result of this change, masks will be optional. Students and parents who wish to have their
child wear a face covering during summer school programs will be permitted to do so. When
engaging in outdoor activities, masks will not be required for vaccinated or unvaccinated
students and employees.
Please be advised the applicable guidance allows for a change to the masking policy for summer
school programs in the summer of 2021 only, and we await updated guidance for the
commencement of the 2021-22 school year.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child's; building administrator.
Sincerely,
David Halloran
Superintendent of Schools
