Dear Gloversville Families,

Effective Monday, February 28, 2022 the Gloversville City Transit bus will start traveling up Lincoln Street hill to drop off middle and high school students at 7:40 a.m. each day school is in session.   This service is free for all GESD students and we appreciate Mr. Brent Warren and the Gloversville Transit Authority's partnership as we strive to improve daily attendance in our schools.

In regards to mask mandates in schools, I first wish to thank the Gloversville school community for their continued patience.  We are grateful to see that masking mandates have been lifted in the community, and we eagerly await a decision from the state that will hopefully make the wearing of masks in schools optional.  The infection rate continues to plummet in our state and region; we have reason to be optimistic that we will see a return to normalcy in the near future.   Governor Kathy Hochul has stated that she will make a decision on mask mandates in schools on or around Friday, March 4, 2022.   She has asked schools to distribute COVID-19 rapid tests to families, (which we have) and asks families to test their children for COVID-19 prior to returning from February break.   Obviously, if your child tests positive on the day we are scheduled to return to school, please keep them home.

Thank you and I hope all students enjoy their winter break.

Sincerely,

David Halloran
Superintendent of Schools
