It’s with a heavy heart that I inform the school community that GESD Board of Education member Thomas (TA) Canty passed away on November 21, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. TA was only 44 years old. He leaves behind two beloved children (Sophia and Nasir) and many heartbroken family members and friends.
TA was a great ambassador of our school district. He was always a positive person and a class act in all he did. TA was an accomplished student-athlete in Gloversville (Class of 1996) and at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, and has been constantly involved in youth athletics, as a coach and referee. His willingness to serve on our Board of Education while battling cancer is a testament to his devotion to improving the lives of others.
I will always remember his enigmatic smile, genuine interest in the welfare of others, and his easy-going nature. TA was one-of-a-kind and will be sorely missed. As you break bread with your loved ones this holiday weekend, please keep TA Canty and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
