KINGSBOROUGH ACTIVITIES
The following is a list of enrichment activities that occur in our building:
ODYSSEY OF THE MIND
Teamwork to develop higher-level thinking and problem-solving. This is a competitive activity with other schools in the tri-county area.
SCIENCE FAIR
Held in the spring, this event is a major occurrence in the school year. For one night, the school is filled with scholar demonstrations and scientific concepts.
FIELD DAY
In June, the school hosts a Field Day to celebrate the end of the school year. Field Day is an opportunity for scholars to participate in fun activities, games, and competitions with their classmates that offer physical exercise and help children learn team-building skills. The annual event is held outside (weather permitting), and typically features Bounce rides, face painting and other activities that children enjoy.
FULTON COUNTY ART SHOW
Each May district students have the opportunity to visit the Fulton County art show where some of the finest examples of local artists’ works are displayed alongside a gallery of student work representing every school in the district.
HALLOWEEN
Each year the Kingsborough School students and staff participate in a Halloween Parade. Kindergarten leads the parade and each level is picked up in turn as we pass through the building. Additional information is available in early October.
HOLIDAY PROGRAM
Each year during the holiday season in December, the Kingsborough School chorus performs in a holiday concert presented to both the school and parents, relatives, friends, etc. The date of the holiday concert will be announced early in the school year.
READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY
Read Across America Day is celebrated each year in March and features special guest readers from throughout the school district and the Gloversville community. The day is also referred to as Dr. Seuss Day because it marks the birth date of Theodor Geisel (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss) — author of such beloved children’s books as The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, Green Eggs and Ham, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, and many others. Read Across America Day offers students and educators alike an opportunity to celebrate books and reading.
VETERANS DAY PARADE
Kingsborough REALLY loves our veterans! Prior to COVID, we had our students bring in their veterans for a parade, lead by the Gloversville Glamour Girls. All of the students made thank you notes and handed them to our veterans. Afterwards, our students presented certificates to their special veteran during a refreshment reception. Since COVID, we have had our students bring in pictures of their veterans and we have displayed them and put together a video. Kingsborough is proud of our veterans!
KINDNESS CLUB
KINDNESS is important to everyone at Kingsborough. First and second Graders have the opportunity to join the kindness club. In the club, we do projects to recognize people and spread kindness to all!
