ABOUT ATHLETICS

The Gloversville Enlarged Central School District offers more than 50 levels (Modified, J.V., Varsity) of interscholastic competition for our scholars in grades 7-12. We believe that participation in sports provides a wealth of opportunities and experiences which assist scholars in their secondary education. Interscholastic athletics serve as a miniature model of life, providing opportunities for scholars with regard to responsibility, fair play, cooperation, concern for others, leadership, respect for coaches and all authority figures, good citizenship, loyalty, and tolerance.

A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE

Gloversville Enlarged School District is proud of its excellent athletics programs. Athletics is a vital part of the entire educational process. Athletic programs teach scholar-athletes values such as sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, respect, dedication and cooperation. It is our hope that these values learned in the Gloversville Athletic Program stay with our athletes for a lifetime. The goal for this athletic website is to improve communication among all stakeholders of the Gloversville Athletic Program.

ATHLETIC PHYSICALS

In accordance with New York State Education law, any student participating on an organized athletic team must have an annual physical to participate. Physicals are good for a period of one year from the date of the physical. Athletic Health History Forms must also be completed for each sport season. The form should be filled out by a parent and then submitted to the School Nurse to be completed. Students must have a physical in order to participate in sports in the GESD.

The following options are available if your son or daughter wants to participate on an athletic team:

  • Obtain a physical at the school by the District Chief Medical Officer.

  • Obtain a sport physical by a private physician. The physician MUST complete a Health Appraisal Physical Form and return it to the School Nurse.

If you choose to have the physical done by your private physician, the completed physical form MUST be delivered prior to the start of practice to the school nurse or Athletic office.

ATHLETICS POLICIES
