This year marks the 237th anniversary of the Constitutional Convention's drafting of the United States Constitution. Constitution Week, initiated by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in 1955, was established to honor this foundational document. On August 2, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed it into law, making September 17–23 a time to commemorate and reflect on the importance of the Constitution.
The celebration of Constitution Week has three key goals:
Encourage the study of the historical events that led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787.
Remind the public that the Constitution is the bedrock of America’s great heritage and the foundation of our way of life.
Emphasize the responsibility of U.S. citizens to protect, defend, and preserve the U.S. Constitution.
Join us in celebrating this vital part of our nation’s history and in reaffirming our commitment to upholding the values and principles that continue to shape our country. 📜
